booked this tiny cabin months ago before we split, and now we’re actually here sharing one double bed 💀 the awkwardness is insane. honestly i just miss being held and feeling safe, but i’m terrified touching will cross a line or make things super messy. how do we survive the night without freezing into statues?
Dr Gnoxx answers
You survive it by building a physical barrier before the lights go out, because indulging that craving right now will almost certainly turn messy. Your body remembers the comfort of their warmth, especially when you’re tired and vulnerable. Craving that touch doesn't mean you want the relationship back; it’s just your nervous system reaching for familiar comfort. But non-sexual cuddling with a fresh ex rarely stays simple—it blurs boundaries and restarts the grieving process.
Take the awkwardness by the horns and name it out loud before you get under the covers. Say something direct: "Sharing this bed is definitely weird for me, so let's put a pillow wall down the middle so neither of us has to worry about rolling over in our sleep." Scavenge an extra blanket from the closet or couch so you aren't fighting for the same sheet, and wear actual loungewear or sweatpants.
Keeping that physical distance tonight might feel a little lonely, but it will save you days of emotional confusion tomorrow.
