I completely ruined things with my best friend on the track team because my brain was fried after getting dumped. Last week I broke down on the bleachers after practice, and while he was hugging me and trying to cheer me up, we somehow kissed. It lasted maybe five seconds before we both froze. Now track practice is pure torture because he won't look at me, but on Snapchat he sends these passive-aggressive blank streaks with depressing song lyrics or leaves me on opened for ten hours. Did I permanently torch our friendship over a messy five-second rebound impulse?

Breathe out: your friendship isn’t dead, it’s just suffering from severe emotional whiplash.
When you mix freshly broken hearts, raw vulnerability, and post-workout endorphins, strange things happen. You were craving comfort, he stepped up, and wires got crossed. Those cryptic, blank Snapchat streaks and icy silences by the hurdles? That’s not hatred. That’s pure panic. He’s utterly terrified of making things weirder, so he’s hiding behind moody indie lyrics and hoping the awkwardness magically evaporates.
Spoiler: it won’t, at least not over snap streaks. You have to break the tension with zero drama before the next warm-up lap. Pull him aside for thirty seconds and say straight up: "Hey, that kiss was just post-breakup chaos and bad timing. You’re my best friend on this team, and I really miss being normal."
Clear the track, let the air out of the balloon, and focus on your running form.
