I feel so stupid for asking, but I sent my boyfriend my very first teasing photo on WhatsApp yesterday, and while doing it I felt this crazy rush downstairs, like my whole body was on fire. But then the blue ticks popped up and he didn't reply for four hours. Now I just feel sick to my stomach and dirty. Is it normal to feel that turned on and then instantly hate yourself?

Dr Gnoxx answers

Deep breath: you didn't break yourself, and you are definitely not dirty. What hit you was an intense cocktail of adrenaline, dopamine, and raw vulnerability. When you step out of your comfort zone, your nervous system fires on all cylinders. That electric buzz downstairs is just your body’s natural response to sexual excitement and novelty. But the second those blue ticks sat there unanswered, your brain slammed the emergency brake. That sudden crash from high anticipation to dead silence triggers an emotional hangover, and our minds love to disguise rejection panic as shame. As for his silence: uni life is chaotic. People get cornered in lectures, lose track of time, or freeze up because they genuinely don't know what smooth line to text back. You don't need to apologize for having desires or being bold. Next time you catch up, don't crawl into a hole. Keep your chin up and toss him a playful reality check: "Leaving me on read for four hours? Did that photo short-circuit your phone or what?" Cut yourself some slack. Your body just experienced a thrill ride, not a moral failure.
