I finally got the courage to ask out my gym crush for coffee, and he spent twenty minutes mimicking my running form at the track like I'm some clumsy toddler. Then he patted his pockets, said he 'forgot his wallet,' and vanished, leaving me with the entire tab. I ended up crying in my car. Was I just completely blind, or did I do something wrong?

Deep breath: you didn't do anything wrong, you just accidentally took a walking red flag out for an overpriced iced latte.
Here’s what really happened: someone showed you their true colors in record time, and it only cost you the price of two coffees. Mocking your running style isn't playful banter—it's cheap negging to mask his own ego, and 'forgetting' the wallet right after was the trashy cherry on top. When someone tries to make you feel small over something you love doing, that's not awkwardness, that's character rot.
Next time you see him stretching near the track, don't hide, don't look down, and definitely don't offer an awkward smile. Give him the exact same blank nod you’d give a broken treadmill. If he ever tries to chat again, look right through him and say: 'Hey, Venmo me for that coffee whenever you find your wallet.' Then lace up, sprint past him, and leave him in the dust where he belongs.
