I invited my situationship of six months over to my parents' house to finally ask them to be exclusive, walked in, and caught them updating their Tinder profile on our couch. When I called them out, they swore their older brother dared them to do it because they panicked about having real feelings for me. Do I actually believe this, or is it the worst excuse in history?

Caught red-handed editing dating bios on your parents' sofa is peak sitcom-villain behavior, but hear me out: it might actually be the truth. When people feel completely out of their depth with real feelings, their brain short-circuits. Instead of admitting they’re terrified of getting hurt, they run back to the safety blanket of pretending they don't care—and throwing a sibling under the bus is the classic panic move.
That said, panic isn't a free pass to treat you like a waiting room. Six months is more than long enough to decide whether you're in or out.
Call their bluff gently, without an audience. Try saying: "If you're terrified of admitting you like me, just say that. But delete the app right now, or you can find another couch." If they delete it without hesitation and look relieved, you have your answer. If they stall, let them swipe themselves straight out the front door. You’re looking for a partner, not a babysitter for someone's ego.
