I know showing up unannounced at his dorm after five days of silence was crazy, and maybe I overreacted, but his roommate answered the door in absolute horror and asked if I was a ghost. Turns out my long-distance boyfriend told everyone on his floor that I died in a freak car crash so he wouldn't have to explain why he was ignoring me. I'm shaking in a campus coffee shop right now... did I push him to this by being too clingy?

Dr Gnoxx answers

Pinch yourself: you are very much alive, but this relationship is officially dead on arrival. Take a deep breath and stop apologizing. Sure, taking an impromptu road trip isn’t ideal etiquette, but faking your untimely demise to avoid an argument is next-level soap-opera villainy. He didn’t just give you the silent treatment; he literally declared you legally deceased so he could play the tragic, grieving bachelor around campus without having to reply to your texts. That isn't conflict avoidance, it's straight-up unhinged. You did not push him into a daytime drama plotline. He chose to throw you a fictional funeral rather than have a five-minute adult conversation. Your only task right now is to finish that coffee and leave. If you cross paths with his roommate again, just deliver the line: "Tell him I returned from the grave purely to dump him." Then block his number permanently. Ghosts don’t text back, and honestly, neither should you.
