Dr Gnoxx

I literally sat in my car and cried for twenty minutes after leaving the queer clinic today. It took me months to build up the courage to ask real questions about my health and identity, only for the counsellor to look at my clothes, sigh, and act like I was wasting their time because I look "too heteronormative". Do I really have to audition just to get healthcare?

Dr Gnoxx answers

Clear call first: Queerness does not come with a dress code, and gatekeeping medical advice based on someone’s jacket is absolute garbage. It stings doubly hard when a place waving rainbow flags turns around and plays fashion police. Here is the reality check: you don’t need an undercut, seven piercings, or a neon badge to have valid questions about your body, your attraction, or your sexual health. Healthcare is a right, not a VIP lounge where a bouncer decides if you look edgy enough to enter. That counselor failed their job. You did nothing wrong by walking in as your authentic self. If you have the energy, email the clinic director a calm, two-line note: "I came for health guidance, but was dismissed because of my appearance." If that feels like too much right now, look up another local clinic or a sex-positive GP who actually remembers the Hippocratic oath. Take up space. You don't owe anyone a costume just to be cared for.
