I literally wanted the floor to swallow me whole today, and I'm so sorry if this is weird to ask. I drove out to a clinic two towns over to get a discreet STI check after an irresponsible hookup last weekend, and the trainee nurse who walked into the room with the swabs was... literally him. Can he legally blab about this, or should I just move across the country?

Dr Gnoxx answers

Take a deep breath and uncurl from the fetal position: legally speaking, that flimsy paper exam gown is practically reinforced with steel. Medical confidentiality is dead serious, even for trainees who happen to be last Saturday's regret. He is legally bound by patient privacy laws. If he breathes a single syllable to his buddies about seeing you on that exam table, he risks torching his medical career before it even starts. Besides, look at the math here: he was holding the test kit, which means he knows damn well *why* you were there—he was the other half of the equation. If anyone is sweating through their scrubs right now, it’s him. For your follow-up or any future lab work, you don't have to endure round two. Just tell the front desk calmly: "I need a different practitioner due to a personal conflict of interest." No explanations required. Get your results, take care of your health, and hold your head high. You just survived the undisputed boss fight of small-town awkwardness.
