Casey asks · 17 Oct 2026

I'm literally crying in a hotel bathroom in Italy so my girlfriend won't hear me. I just checked our old muted WhatsApp group and saw photos of my four childhood best friends at our annual lake cabin trip—they left yesterday, and nobody even asked me if I could make it. Have they just replaced me because I'm in a relationship now?

Ouch. That gut punch stings like hell, especially when you’re supposed to be sipping Aperol in paradise. First off: dry your eyes, step out of that bathroom, and don't let this ruin your holiday. What happened here sucks, but it’s rarely a malicious plot to discard you. When people pair up, old friend groups often get lazy and make assumptions like, "Oh, Casey is all loved-up and traveling anyway, no point in asking." It’s cowardly and thoughtless, but it’s usually thoughtlessness, not hate. Still, you don't have to swallow that silent exclusion. Don't blow up the group chat while emotional, and don't play passive-aggressive games. Once you're back home, message the one friend you trust most: "Hey, saw the cabin photos. Honestly stung quite a bit that nobody even asked, even if I was away. Are we good?" Their reaction will tell you everything. Until then, put the phone face down and go enjoy the person who actually chose to spend their summer with you.
