Dr Gnoxx

Malachi asks · 15 Oct 2026

I spent three days spiraling, convinced I committed some mortal sin at my housewarming because my best friend blocked me on everything overnight. Turns out? I cornered him by the mailboxes and he broke down: he's secretly hooking up with my psycho landlord. The exact landlord who threatened to evict me for having overnight guests. Do I laugh, scream, or just start packing my bags?!

Dr Gnoxx answers

Take a deep breath: your friend didn't block you out of malice, he blocked you out of sheer, sweating, soap-opera panic. He broke the cardinal rule of tenant survival: never sleep with the building dictator, especially when said dictator treats standard lease agreements like a personal prison regime. Ghosting you wasn't about your housewarming snacks. It was his cowardly attempt to avoid looking you in the eye while sneaking past your door doing the walk of shame. You don't need to pack your bags. Threatening eviction over having a guest over is classic landlord posturing, not a legal reality. Pull your friend aside away from the mailboxes and give him the reality check he sorely needs: "I don't care who you fool around with, but erasing me because you felt guilty was ridiculous. Also, if your new fling tries to fine me, you're paying it." Laugh about the absolute absurdity of it, demand a proper apology, and maybe keep your deadbolt turned.
