I threw up in the second-floor bathroom again today because my ex walked past me by the lockers. It happens almost every morning, my stomach just heaves. The worst part is the guilt: I’m in an amazing long-distance relationship with a girl I met on TikTok, and I love her, but my body is acting like I’m still hung up on my ex. Why can't I control this?

Dr Gnoxx answers

First things first: vomiting in the school bathroom does not mean you secretly still love your ex. It means your nervous system treats third period hallway traffic like a face-to-face encounter with a grizzly bear. Your gut has more nerve endings than almost anywhere else in your body. When you run into an unresolved emotional crash site every single morning at 7:55 AM, your brain dumps a bucket of adrenaline into your system and slams the emergency eject button on your breakfast. That’s pure stress reflex, not romantic yearning. You don't need to confess to your long-distance girlfriend that your stomach went rogue—you aren't cheating on her with a toilet bowl. Next time you see your ex coming, unclench your jaw, plant your feet, and exhale twice as long as you inhale. If the hallway route is killing you, take the outside stairs for two weeks to break the Pavlovian gag reflex. Give your body a break; it’s just running an outdated fire drill.
