I was standing right by the kitchen counter when my date loudly told a circle of friends that being bi was just their 'experimental era' before aggressively hitting on someone of the opposite sex across the room. We matched on an app weeks ago, talked every single night, and they literally brought me to this house party as their date. Watching them flirt so hard just to prove their straightness made my stomach turn. I feel burning jealousy, but mostly just completely discarded and humiliated. Did our entire connection mean nothing?

Ouch. Deep breath: what you’re feeling right now isn't just jealousy, it's a completely reasonable allergic reaction to being treated like an invisible prop. Figuring out your sexuality as a teen can be messy, but throwing your date under the bus just to win cool points with peers is pure cowardice. When people are insecure about their queer identity, they sometimes overcompensate by desperately performing for the crowd. That doesn't mean your late-night chats weren't real—it just means their spine is currently made of wet noodles when their friends are watching. Do not stand by the red cups waiting for scraps of affection from someone running a PR campaign. Grab your coat, find your own ride home, and let them realize what they lost. When they text you tomorrow acting like nothing happened, hit them with: "Watching you audition for your friends at my expense was embarrassing. I'm looking for someone who actually stands by who they like." You deserve someone who is genuinely proud to stand next to you, not someone who shoves you into the closet the second the party starts.
