My boyfriend says if I really loved him, I’d give him my phone passcode and Instagram password. He saw a dumb meme I posted in my new office group chat and basically accused me of emotional cheating because I won’t let him read all my work DMs. Am I actually being shady for wanting one shred of privacy, or is he totally losing it?

Short and blunt: your passcode belongs to you, not to his insecurity. Office group chats are mostly bad coffee memes and complaining about the printer, not clandestine romance. Demanding full access to your digital life isn’t a romantic proof of love; it’s border patrol. You’re freshly in love, starting your first real job, and trying to find your footing—having personal boundaries doesn't make you guilty, it makes you a normal adult. Next time he pulls the 'if you loved me' card, look him straight in the eye and say: 'I love you, but my phone isn’t community property, and trust doesn't require surveillance.' If he needs full control to feel secure, the issue isn't your password—it's his trust battery, and you can't charge that for him.
