My boyfriend wants me in an open Discord call 24/7 in my new apartment, just on mute, so he can 'hear my vibe' and know if someone comes over... Is that normal for long distance? I just got my own place and I feel so guilty even unplugging my mic to pee, like I'm hiding something. But having a virtual baby monitor running 24/7 feels wrong, right?

Short and sweet: you signed a lease for an apartment, not a cell block in a high-security prison.
Let’s call this what it actually is: he didn't set up a romantic open line, he slapped an electronic ankle monitor on your desk. Long-distance relationships can be tough, sure, but trust is built on mutual respect, not ambient room surveillance. If he needs to hear your front door creak to feel secure, the problem isn't your living situation—it's his urge to manage his own jealousy by controlling your personal space.
Disconnect that call tonight. You don't need to apologize or deliver a twenty-minute defense, just give him a calm, clear boundary: "I love you, but I’m not living on a wiretap. Let's hang out on call when we're actually hanging out."
If he throws a fit because he can't police your background noise anymore, take that as a glaring red flag. Your first apartment should smell like independence and burnt pizza, not the anxiety of being constantly watched.
