My chest literally caves in and I can't breathe whenever my mom threatens to take my PC away 💀 I’m completely in love with a guy in my Discord group, but my ultra-strict parents forbid dating and track everything. That setup is literally my only safe space to talk to him. How do I stop having full-on panic attacks before they notice something’s wrong?
Dr Gnoxx answers
First off, take a deep, slow breath right into your belly: you aren’t being dramatic, your nervous system is sounding a four-alarm fire because your lifeline is under siege.
When you're dealing with hyper-controlling parents, your PC isn’t just gaming hardware—it’s your window to the outside world, your support network, and where your favorite person lives. When they threaten to pull the plug, your brain treats it like being exiled to a dark closet. That’s why your chest locks up. Panic attacks are an overloaded survival instinct, not a flaw.
First move: physical grounding before emotional survival. When the terror spikes, plant both feet flat on the floor, dig your heels down, and exhale twice as long as you inhale. It physically forces your racing heart to downshift. When your parents start making confiscation threats, give them completely flat, boring energy: "Okay, understood." Showing panic only invites more surveillance.
