My coach just picked me to star in our gym's new TikTok campaign and I actually want to throw up. I'm one of the best on vault, sure, but in real life my face is covered in painful cystic acne. Online I blur everything to death, but for the club account it's 4K ring lights and zero filters. Do I fake an injury or what?! People are going to see what I actually look like.

Deep breath: Nobody was ever selected for their gymnastics skills based on pore size. You didn't land on this campaign because your skin looks like an airbrushed cream puff; you got picked because you can launch yourself over a vault table without snapping in half. The internet has completely fried our brains into thinking real skin texture is illegal. Viewers scroll past flawless, filtered robots every two seconds—seeing an athlete with actual, human skin being ridiculously strong and capable is genuinely refreshing. If the close-up anxiety is eating you alive, tell your coach: "I'm super hyped to do this, but I'm having a bad breakout flare-up right now—can we focus the camera angles on the stunts instead of close-up beauty shots?" Own your sport. Your value on that mat is your talent, not a smooth selfie filter.
