My ex literally dumped me in January saying I still looked 'like a twelve-year-old kid' 💀 Fast forward to this week: I ran into him at a resort pool and he actually did a double take because my body finally hit its growth spurt without him stressing me out. Honestly I feel so relieved, but why did I ever let his comments make me hate my late bloomer genes?!

Dr Gnoxx answers

First of all: file that double take under pure poetic justice. Bodies are not instant noodles. You can’t just add hot water and expect instant curves or broad shoulders on someone else’s schedule. Puberty runs on its own chaotic biological timeline, and being a late bloomer is completely normal—what wasn't normal was having someone grade your developing body like a bad school project. Half of your glow-up right now is probably just the sheer weight of his toxic opinions falling off your shoulders. Why did you let it get to you back then? Because when you care about someone, their words sting twice as hard. Cut your past self some slack for trusting the wrong critic. If he suddenly tries to slide into your DMs or linger by the sunbeds now, don't give him an ounce of validation. A polite, breezy "Oh hey, hope you're having a nice vacation!" as you put your sunglasses back on will say everything that needs to be said. You grew into yourself on your own clock, and he lost his front-row ticket. Enjoy the beach.
