My little brother woke up yesterday to find out his entire football crew unfollowed him on Instagram overnight, and he was literally crying into his cereal. He's totally crushed and won't tell me what happened at practice, but I know how these guys tick. I’ve been drafting this super chill, diplomatic group DM to send to their captain to clear the air and sort out whatever stupid misunderstanding caused this before Monday. If I hit the right tone, this should blow over and get them back on good terms, right? He just wants his boys back.

Dr Gnoxx answers

Step away from the keyboard and do not hit send: a diplomatic PR statement from big bro won't fix this, and it will almost certainly make it worse. A synchronized mass-unfollow isn't a social media glitch—it’s middle-school locker room warfare spilling into his feed. It feels devastating, but if you swoop in like his personal lawyer, the team won’t see a peacemaker; they’ll see a kid whose older sibling fights his battles. That’s pure fuel for teenage cruelty. Your brother doesn’t need a mediator right now; he needs an anchor. Instead of messaging the captain, sit on the edge of your brother's bed, offer him a slice of pizza, and ask the real question: “Do you want to vent about what actually went down after practice?” Let him talk without jumping in to solve it. Remind him that people who exile you over an unspoken grudge aren't acting like real teammates anyway. Be his safe harbor at home, but let him run his own plays on the field.
