My swim teammate just dropped a joke in our team Discord server using the exact private pet name my long-distance boyfriend only ever calls me during our late-night calls. Between juggling 6 AM swim practices and squeezing in FaceTime across time zones, I'm already losing my mind, but this is genuinely freaky. They don't even know each other in real life. When I DM'd him asking how he knew that, he just posted a smirk emoji and said 'the pool walls have ears.' Did my boyfriend secretly tell him, or is someone spying on me? I'm completely spiraling.

Deep breath: your boyfriend hasn’t turned into an undercover double agent, and your locker doesn’t have hidden bugs. But your teammate is definitely playing a cheap little mind game because he enjoys watching you squirm. Ninety percent of the time, the explanation is painfully boring. Did you leave your Discord mic live on your phone while rushing out of the locker room? Did you take a quick FaceTime call on speaker while packing your goggles? Or do they share an obscure mutual server where your boyfriend uses that same handle? What’s not okay is your teammate milking the suspense with cryptic smirk emojis. That’s pure middle-school drama bait. Put an end to the guessing game right now. Don't beg for clues. Send him one dry message: "Cut the cryptic riddles. Did you overhear me by the lockers, or what?" If he keeps playing mysterious, literally ignore him—it takes the fun right out of his little power trip. Meanwhile, double-check your Discord audio permissions and casually mention it to your partner. No panic, just basic mystery-solving. You’ve got laps to swim, not spy movies to star in.
