Sitting on a freezing balcony pretending to love this beach trip while my parents scream at each other inside about lawyers and custody. 💀 Meanwhile my whole squad is on Discord streaming Lethal Company, laughing their asses off, and I’m just staring at the green mic icon. How do I even jump in without turning their whole vibe into a funeral?

Dr Gnoxx answers

First rule of surviving parental implosions: you don't owe your friends a dramatic confession just to hang out. Right now, you're treating your parents' divorce like toxic waste that'll contaminate anyone who talks to you. It won't. You don't have to show up as the brave kid or the broken kid; you can just show up as the guy who needs a break from screaming adults. Your brain thinks you need an Oscar-worthy speech, but Discord isn't group therapy. Jump into voice, mute your mic when things get loud inside, and drop a deadpan truth bomb in text chat: "Hotel WiFi sucks and my parents are doing a world-championship fight night, save me from my life, drop the invite." Real friends don't run away from a messy reality, but they also won't force you to wallow in it. Let them pull you into their stupid game. You’re allowed to laugh, even while the living room is falling apart.
