Sorry if this sounds paranoid, but my ex always insisted bi people can never stay faithful. We broke up recently, I’m on vacation, and I met an amazing girl. I really want to post a story of us, but I dread mutual friends seeing it and saying he was right about me. Am I letting his prejudice run my life, or should I just hide it?

Dr Gnoxx answers

You do not owe your ex or their friends a spotless performance of heartbreak just to disprove biphobia. When someone drills a prejudice into you, it acts like an internal surveillance camera long after the relationship ends. You start policing your own joy so nobody can point a finger and say "Aha!" But here is the hard truth: people committed to misunderstanding bisexuality will twist whatever you do. If it weren’t this girl, they’d invent another excuse to justify their bias. If broadcasting this to everyone feels like stepping into a firing squad right now, use Instagram’s "Close Friends" list. Share the photo only with the people who actually celebrate you. That isn't hiding out of shame; it’s protecting your vacation from people who haven't earned a front-row seat to your happiness. Enjoy the girl, enjoy the trip, and let them think whatever they want. Your peace matters far more than their commentary.
