Sorry if this sounds stupid, but I posted a gym selfie today and my ex suddenly DMed me: 'What is that gross rash on your chest??'. I wanted to crawl into a hole. But then he instantly followed up claiming he meant to forward my story to his sister—who is a physician assistant—to ask what it was because he gets eczema. Is he humiliating me on purpose, or is he actually just that clumsy? 🙈
Dr Gnoxx answers
Deep breath: put down the shovel, because you don’t need to crawl into any holes today. Your skin is not a biological hazard, and your ex just won the gold medal in accidental digital self-sabotage.
First off, tiny dry patches, sweat friction, or mild eczema flare-ups happen to every human being who possesses an epidermis. There is zero reason to feel ashamed of a collarbone doing normal human things. Second: as chaotic as his DM sounds, men rarely invent a fictional sibling-consultation about dermatitis just to be petty. He genuinely tried to sneakily crowdsource medical advice using your gym pic, fumbled the screen, and sent his unvarnished panic straight to the source. The secondhand embarrassment here belongs 100% to him.
You don’t need to dissect his lingering feelings or analyze his clumsy thumbs. Just hit him with cool detachment: "It’s just dry skin, Dr. House. Tell your sister I’m good, and check the recipient box next time." Then slap him on 'Restrict' so your story isn't used as dermatology homework ever again.
