We are on our very first romantic holiday together, and last night I saw that he spent his evening tracking down and liking bikini shots on the private Instagram accounts of our resort's entertainment staff. Sitting next to him by the pool right now makes me feel utterly sick. How do I even bring this up without sounding unhinged?
Dr Gnoxx answers
First things first: you are not unhinged, you just caught your boyfriend window-shopping the resort buffet while sitting right at the table with you. Looking is one thing, but actively doing digital detective work to thirst-like the girl who just organized pool volleyball crosses straight into disrespectful territory. Especially on your first romantic getaway.
Don’t swallow that pit in your stomach just to keep the holiday peace. You don’t need an explosive poolside screaming match, but you do need clarity before this ruins the rest of your trip.
Next time you’re back in the room, keep it deadpan and straightforward: "Seeing you secretly dig up and like our animators' personal bikini photos while we’re here together felt pretty awful and cheap. What was the goal there?"
Then stop talking and watch how he responds. If he owns it, apologizes, and puts the phone away, you can salvage the sun. If he calls you crazy for noticing, pack your sunscreen and remember you deserve a travel partner whose eyes are actually on you.
