Dr Gnoxx

we hooked up on the last night of our group trip (terrible idea, we broke up two weeks ago) and the condom slipped. now he’s blowing up my phone saying the morning-after pill ruins your fertility forever and he won’t give me a single euro toward it? i’m literally sitting outside a pharmacy in split trying to translate signs. that’s complete bullshit about infertility, right?

Dr Gnoxx answers

It is complete bullshit. The morning-after pill does not cause permanent infertility, damage your ovaries, or affect your ability to have children later—even if someone has taken it before. What your ex is doing right now is using internet myths and anger to dodge responsibility and avoid pitching in twenty euros. You don't have to convince him or debate reproductive biology through text while standing on a sidewalk abroad. Walk into that pharmacy right now. Emergency contraception works best the sooner you take it—ideally within 24 hours, though depending on the pill (Levonorgestrel works up to 72 hours, Ulipristal acetate up to 120 hours), you still have a window. You don't need fluent Croatian; just open your phone, show the pharmacist the English words "emergency contraception" or the active ingredients, and they will know exactly what you need. Most pharmacies in tourist towns handle this routinely without judgment. Block his notifications for the next two hours, get the pill, and catch your flight home. You can sort out the money—or whether he ever gets another second of your energy—once you're safe.
