We’re literally supposed to spend the night together this weekend, and at 2 a.m. in Discord vc they drop: 'Honestly I’ve never done an STI test, I just trust good vibes' 💀 My stomach completely dropped. How do I insist on actual testing now without killing the mood or sounding crazy paranoid?!

Dr Gnoxx answers

Spoiler alert: Chlamydia doesn't care about anyone's aura, astrology chart, or 'good vibes'. Treating vibes as sexual healthcare is like relying on positive thinking to lock your front door at night. Most STIs don't arrive with ominous music or obvious symptoms—they are completely invisible. You aren't being paranoid or ruining the romance by asking for basic hygiene; you're just acting like an adult who values their own body. Keep it breezy, casual, and completely non-negotiable. Text them: 'Hey, I’m super excited for this weekend, but my standard rule before we sleep together is that we both get a fresh STI panel done. Let’s knock it out this week—iced coffees on me after?' How someone responds to a simple boundary tells you everything you need to know. If getting tested ruins their mood, let the whole person go.
